The show opened almost promptly at 7pm. There were few personalities were late, probably traffic issues. The CEO of the GayVN made a quick speech which no one probably was paying attention because they were all ready to get drunk throughout the night. After that speech it was ChiChi LaRue who came out and did the opening introduction to Lady Bunny, who put on what I called amazing 10-minute opening show, a re-write of all the popular hit tunes into dirty kick ass lyrics. The track listing, in no particular orders, is the following:
Studio 54 - If you could read my mind
Moulin Rouge - Lady Marmalade
Avril Lavigne - Complicated
Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle
Toni Braxton - He wasn’t Man Enough For Me
Missy Elliott - Get Your Freak On
Alicia Keyes - Falling
Elton John - Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Ricky Martin - Livin’ La Vida Loca
Many more…..
It was totally Amazing. I re-wrote the lyrics of Gimme More by Britney Spears which is the GayVN 2008 version but I don’t think it’ll really match her par.
Derek & Romaine, the duo that got the shit storm since they announced they’ll be hosting the GayVN, lived up to the comments by Michael Stabile from The Sword, opens the show as purple and white houseplants. It was really brilliant. If you can’t beat’em, join’em. Of course they appeared in person but that would be interesting if they decide not to show up in person anyways.
The first award, the Best New Comer of the year, goes to Blake Riley. I’ve been predicting it will be either Josh Vaughn or Blake Riley will scoop the award because they’ve been amazing in 2007.
Then the show pretty much was on track and nothing special really happens. Jesse Santana and lover boy Guy Parker were the presenters for one of the awards. However, it seems to me that they were baseball players ready to get some actions because they were chewing gum for the whole time. Guy Parker looks amazing. But Jesse Santana’s tan became the joke, courtesy of Derek Hartley.
Aden and Jordan Jaric were the award presenting boy for the first half. The way they hold hand together was sooooooooooo sweeeeeet. The amusing part was that Lady Bunny stripped their pants and get them to show their butt. hee hee.
In the half time, Lady Bunny did a 5-minute show, which was fucking hysterical, making fun of Jesse Santana, Barrett Long, ChiChi LaRue, Derek & Romaine on SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Michael Lucas, Ben Andrews, and the tourists of San Francisco.
2 of the biggest punch (in my opinion) are the following:
Has anyone seen ChiChi’s new shoes? Neither has she!
Michael Lucas was so nervous for the GayVN Awards so he called the suicide hotline. The staff said, you did the right thing.
Those jokes were mean, and hysterical.
After that, people seems to be bored and getting drunk, and lining up at the bar and bathroom. Derek, who got his little intermission, was talking to him hot gay elite friend Jim. They had this I called it intimate interaction. I’m not going into details but I have to say, it’s a bit hard to relate him when it comes to what he said and done on his radio show and what he does in person with someone. I just can’t relate these 2, probably Derek was pretty conservative about his life. Although he dishes himself with some bizarre life experiences, but when it comes to intimacy, he toned it down.
Romaine did a stunt. Showing her tits. Which was actually quite big after having her little Ro. Oh my god. Honestly, I haven’t really see any female tits except watching it on str8 porn sometimes.
The last few segments I pretty much ignored it because I was wondering around, my eyes were looking at the people. Sometimes I feel will I have any opportunity to relate to them.
As the show ended, it was like a zoo again. We all (the VIPs) got our gift bags, then everyone mingled again and wondering around. I finally had a chance to talk to the adorable Josh Vaughn, Too bad his husband Cameron Marshall didn’t come with him because it was a last minute thing and you know those air tickets in North America are killing people around. We took a pic, gosh I do look like a guy with attitude. I FUCKING HATE IT. While Derek shows up and talking to Josh, I told him, “you better get Josh on the show, because I’m dying to hear him on radio”. Derek said, “oh yes, we will have him on the show very soon. The reason why we didn’t have him is because he didn’t come to NY. “ As I was going to say “over the phone!” Derek added, “and yes, we will try to do phone conversation, because I have his number and I have ChiChi’s number”.
Derek later took off and wondering where ChiChi was heading to afterward. Since the GayVN cancelled the after-show party, ChiChi had problem finding sponsors for her after-show party, so it sort of upset everyone. But I think they managed took off somewhere to a club in San Francisco to celebrate the success of Channel 1 Releasing. But also, Raging Stallion’s movie “Grunts” was one of the highlights in the show. Jake Deckard won the best performer and performer of the year. Kudos to Jake.
Then I saw Erik Rhodes and Romaine and Jim sitting and talking. So I joined. Just my usual compliments (not because I’m kissing their ass, but they did a good job, and they look fierce). Romaine had to take early flight home on Sunday because of the baby and her wife (well, girlfriend) Iris in the last minute quit her job, which sort of ruined everything. We all left the centre and exchanged quick bon voyage afterward.
Jason Sechrest said although the show wasn`t that bad at all, but it`s not too amazing either. I know how you feel Jason Sechrest. Perhaps having Kathy Griffin to host the show in 2007 was just totally a mistake, and all the gays got spoiled a BIG FUCKING TIME.
To those Derek & Romaine listeners who harassed me on Thursday because I was tight-lipped on criticizing the GayVN for treating Derek & Romaine shit, you guys suck. Derek & Romaine pulled the brilliant bit. Lady Bunny was awesome. I`m glad I went to the award. Despite few bitching, it`s still worth it. I think I still won`t criticize the GayVN because it`s not as bad as everyone thought.
And this morning I was just looking at few comments. Francesco D'Macho quote the show was a bit boring. Understandable. As much as I thought the show was Amazing, but it wasn't too fanfuckingtastic either.
Looking forward to the 2009 GayVN. As much as I hope to be in the industry, perhaps next year I`ll still attend the show, simply as a fan.
